Established in 1995 Waiter.com, the premier on-line restaurant ordering service for the hungry web surfer, pioneered the concept of online restaurant ordering in 1995 when it offered 60 Silicon Valley restaurants for delivery or takeout ordering via the world wide web. Today, over 1300 restaurants nationwide are available
Halliburton Company is an American multinational corporation and the world’s second largest oil service company and responsible for most of the world’s largest fracking operations. The company helps customers maximize value throughout the lifecycle of the reservoir – from locating hydrocarbons and managing geological data, to drilling and formation evaluation, well construction and completion, and optimizing production throughout the life of the asset.
Waiter.com’s business was built around convenience. With the rapid adoption of iPhones and iPads, the management team recognized the need to promote a mobile app for their service. Developing an app allowed the potential to expand Waiter.com’s reach. But the team also understood their traditional customers would likely be iPhone and iPad users who expect to be able to order from their devices. Unlike many companies challenged to demonstrate definitive ROI for an app, there was no question the Waiter.com mobile app would be worth the investment
The most important requirements for the mobile app were functionality and quality. The app needed to provide as much of the functionality of the website as possible, have minimal latency and perform issue-free. In theory, it was simple, just take the proven web application and condense it for a mobile device. In practice, it would require experience in mobile GUI development and knowledge of the mobile ecosystem
AGEST’s development team worked with Waiter.com’s IT staff to make sure the development requirements were as specific as possible at the beginning of the project. Getting the UI correct was instrumental to the success of the app. It was crucial to minimize the number of steps and screens to navigate, and the buttons had to be readable and easy to access. After determining the essential UI functions, the app development was able to proceed rapidly
Emulators were used for unit testing as the build progressed, and initial GUI tests were manually performed on live devices. Before delivering the app, large-sale testing was performed on multiple devices. The initial app developed by AGEST was for iOS devices, which, in comparison to Android, minimized testing due to the limited number of devices and iOS versions the app needed to support
The Waiter.com mobile app is now fully functional and allows users to place orders and save multiple addresses/order preferences within a very efficient 9.5 MB footprint
Users have given the app 4.5 out of 5 stars which further validate AGEST ’s ability to adopt clients’ requirements and deliver a product that performs to the demanding standards of mobile users
